Not role playing games but...

Dune playing games.

Any game that gives you the feeling of being in a Dune environment. With or without mods.

Even if it is only a Desert map.

First go:

Minecraft

You select the preset desert, and your journey begins

The villages have food (carrots=spice and the best food around)

The villagers can do business with you by trading. They cannot fight, so I guess they are CHOAM in a sense.

The pyramids contain diamonds, metal, gold and bones, sometimes an enchantment book (upgrades)

At night, the "worms" come out. Skeletons, Zombies, Creepers, Spiders and Enderman.

They all want to eat/kill you.

The Zombies also hunt down villagers, and turn them into Zombies. Like that one useless guy from the Telaxu. Although in Minecraft they are very good at it. And I abuse it too :).

You are only safe inside of a structure that is closed.

Second go:

In Starcraft you have also a desert planet. Sometimes you see a dead worm or a living one. Although, they don't do much except for being scenery. Some players made a map where an observer would serve as a worm in the sand. Then that player that controls the observer could activate his "worm". And at the spot of the observer, a Zerg unit explodes, but also any other unit that is in the same location. Thus eating the unit, sort of speak.

You could not kill these "worms".
