After playing for 10 minutes orso, suddenly the "Options" menu stops working.

I tried reistalling windows & dune 2000 & also tried it on another machine.

I'm running Windows98 English regular with SP1 & DirectX 8.

After I continue playing the game, without the Option menu, I get the following when finishing the level:

"File UI_gfxRegionsh1.bmp Not Found [gGameTicks=266525]" in a popup box called "GetBMPData".

Sometimes h1.bmp is a1.bmp, so I think H stands for Harkonen and A for Atreides..

I checked the files & they exist.

The only thing I could find, is an error log (failure.txt) in the dune2000 dir at installation:

"Dune 2000 requires a 256 colour desktop to run.

This video card does not support the required modes.

Insufficient RAM and/or Virtual Memory. Check Virtual Memory settings and disk space to ensure at least 12Mb is avilable.

File not found

Please reinstall"

I'm running a CU Celeron 700 with 192mb memory on an Asus P2B..

Anyone a clue?

Cheers,

manuel

What kind of video card do you have?? Is it an AGP or PCI card? Do you have the latest drivers for your video card? Have you tried the game with Direct X 7a? Are you overclocking anything? What desktop resolutions have you tried....640x480? 800x600? or 1024x768?

I have an Matrox G400 AGP DualHead, I've tried it with driver ver 5.52, 6.04 & 6.21 in 1024x768@ 8 bit / 16 bit / 32 bit, all the same.. I tried running with Win98 "1st edition" without SP1 and with SP1.. I can't switch to DirectX 7a, because DirectX 8 is already installed and I probably need it for other games..

The machine I was running on, was not OC-ed and it also wasn't an intermittant problem, it happends always!!

If I modify resource.cfg, so it reflects the paths with full path name, after 10 minutes, the options menu still works,

but there aren't any games to load and after a save, no savegame is present!

I'm out of options...

Sounds like you've pulled all the stops out but...here are some system bios suggestions if you wish to try them...I really am just guessing but it never hurts to try this stuff if nothing else is working. In your system bios setup try the following....assuming you can tweak these things in your bios

*Video BIOS cacheable - Set to disabled. Performance should be slightly increased.

*Video BIOS shadow - Set to disabled. Usually increases video card performance. If you encounter problems, set back to default and restart your system.

*PCI Palette Snoop - Set to disabled. An old BIOS feature used mainly when running a daughter video board.

*VGA Palette Snoop - Set to disabled. Another old VGA BIOS feature not required by today's more advanced video card.

*C8xxxx-CBxxxx Shadow - Set all to disabled. Video shadowing often creates conflicts with other devices within your computer. Try enabling these a few at a time and if your system remains stable, performance will gradually increase.

*AGP Aperture Size - This is the system memory available to your AGP device. The more memory available to your video card, the better it performs. Then again, it takes away from system memory, so don't set it too high or you'll have a load of fun with swap buffer errors...

128+ MB ram: Set to 64 MB or 32 MB (try both, pick which is better

96 MB ram: Set to 48 MB or 24 MB (try both, pick which is better)

64 MB ram: Set to 32 MB or 16 MB (try both, pick which is better)

48 MB ram: Set to 24 MB or 12 MB (try both, pick which is better)

32 MB ram: Set to 24 MB or 12 MB (try both, pick which is better)

16 MB ram: Set to 24 MB or 12 MB (try both, pick which is better)

If you've already tried these....hmmmm...I'm stumped....since you've tried the drivers and playing with the path, It's strange that your having the same problem on the other box you tried....that makes me wonder about how the game is installing off the CD....wonder if something is getting corrupted. If your using any weird hacks like "No CD" etc...you might want to play with a fresh install which sounds like you have...oh well...hope this helps :)

I've already mailed to EA in Holland, but they are slow as well (typical Dutch..)

The strange thing is, I'm running the State Of War demo and I also get problems when loading/saving files & path names

(STRANGE!!) I already ran the lastest mcAfee virus scanner as well, (to find out there's W32/Hybris.gen.dll@M all over,

but it's clean now) but still got trouble..
