House Atreides moved to Arrakis on Imperial whim, not for the intent of the melange wealth. The emperor then combined forces with the Harkonnen's while the Duke settled in to Arrakis where he was destroyed by the Sardaukar and Harkonnen soldiers and his surviving family tossed to the desert to die.
