The HL2 Source Engine is great, but the game itself is some a bit boring and very short, got though it in one evening/night. The graphics aren't as good as they were in Doom3 and the atmosphere isn't that good. The game and yet is overhyped... there are a lot of things which won't make this game the greatest game ever. It seems they only concentrated on the new engine and didn't care too much about anything else. For example the boat and the jeep thing... you don't see any hands on the handlebars/steering-wheel ... but they do turn, whenever you are going for another direction... very poor. The weapons are also very strange. The submachine gun is really crap, going by pistol against human enemys is much more effective if you make headshots only.

CS:S is very very like a beta version. If you are a newbie to this you probably like the game, but as an oldschool counter-strike player who has been playing the game for over 4 yours now since the early beta releases back then in 1999 I can really say this. There are a lot things still to change and I hope Valve will do so. The last CS version 1.6 took about 20 patches/updates to get 95% alright... but CS:S is sold as a final version and so it should be 9%-100% perfect right from the beginning but it isn't: There are a lot of known bugs for graphic stuff, sound related settings, cfg commands... if you don't knew CS and aren't all about "I know every fucking detail about the game" it's maybe fun. But if you are familiar with all the cfg stuff and all the tweaking you will really be disappointed how far from perfect the game still is. It will probably take a while until professional gaming at CPL or WCG will be possible with the game unless there are a lot of bugfixes and changes in the next few weeks. I still hope this will happen, because I was looking forward to play some league-games against - I'll take a look at the game after every new update and maybe in about 6 months the game will be ready for real gaming like it is possible with CS 1.6
