Question about Scytale and Bijaz

Alright I was thinking a bit. And is it so that Bijaz was a Tleilaxu master? Being small and all and able to control a ghola?. And pretty smart too.

And how about Scytale. He was a face dancer but he seemed to be rather smart and independant etc. Isn't that weird? I thought all face dancers were mules. Can anyone answer this?

Well, "mule" was as much a reference to their impotency as it was to their servitude and place as Tleilaxu workhorse.  Remember that the Tleilaxu evolved greatly from Dune Messiah to Heretics and Chapterhouse.

My bet is that Bijaz was a Master.  But even still, a Master in Tleilaxu society may simply be synonymous with a full Tleilaxu citizen - as opposed to the face dancers, who were without rights.  But this doesn't necessarily mean they were stupid.

yeah, the tleilaxu did change radically, especially involving religion and obviously their advancements in technology. They also seemed to treat their "slaves" much differently than in the later Dune books. Also their moral ideals were different. (notice how they always give at least one chance to anybody they plan to assassinate? it sounds like an old and almost hallowed ritual.)

I always felt that Bijaz was just another Tleilaxu construct.  There is no reason to assume that there are only Masters and Face Dancers.  Scytale was their weapon, Bijaz aimed him.

Well, he "aimed" Hayt moreso than Scytale.  But that is logical, as I recall they (Bijaz and Hayt) came from the same Axolotl tank.  As I said, Master may be a general term, like "officer"; there may be many different types serving many different functions.
