About This File
Goal: Gipuzkoa: The smallest province of the Basque Country, in Spain. In 1930 it had one of the biggest densities of railroads in Europe.
Author's Comments: GIPUZKOA is a very little province of the Basque Country, in the nord of Spain, near France.
It's a mountainous region, so, the construction of railroads has great difficulty.
Nevertheless, in 1930 Gipuzkoa had a very complete network of narrow-gauge railways, that connected all its valleys and towns.
The capital of the province is Donostia-San Sebastián. The most important cities are Irún, Eibar, Rentería, Tolosa, Arrasate, Zarautz, Bergara, and the town of Pasaia, around the harbour, that is formed by four districts: Pasai San Pedro, Donibane, Pasai Antxo and Trintxerpe.
Gipuzkoa is, simultaneously, a region with much agriculture and cattle, but also with many industries, mainly of the metal.
