Does the lady Jessica convert water of life without pain?

So it's an overriding theme that the conversion from one into a reverend mother is a very very painful process. It's emphasized everytime we see it done in the books. However, there is no mention of pain when Jessica undergoes the change. At first I thought it was because she imbibed the pure water of life directly from a dying worm. However, the sisterhood also uses concentrated spice essence. So I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on that.
