hi,

i am new to the form from your discussion you folks sound well informed about emperor bfd i am having a problem their is no model folder in data folder

in my version of emperor and when i tried editing the model0001.rfh file by extracting rules file and the placing my edited rule file of the same size and everything using by using add file option in "duenEx2 beta" and deleting the origional rules file their is a change in "model0001.rfd" file form 31.1kb to 31.3kb while "model0001.rfh" remains the same size but when i try to play the game at the first mission loading in single palyer campaing game crashes saying "game.exe" has encountered a problem but when i replace the edited "model0001.rfd" with the origional "model0001.rfh" also changes back to orgional form and my editing is undone but the game playes normally so can you tell me how edit the rules file without crasing the game

Any help would be appreciated.

i only did small stuff like reducing build time & increasing health & increasing view range and not even a total reduction at that only like

say from 728 for build time i changed it to 100 meaning in all buildings and units any thing having build time in 100's has been reduced to one hundred only

There isn't a model folder by default - so you need to create one.

You can *in theory* edit the rfh/rfd files, but that's tricky and very prone to messing up - as happened with you. So simply copy the rules.txt & artini.txt files which you've extracted from the last model rfh/rfd, and place them in the model folder, and Emperor will load the ones in the model folder in place of the ones in the rfh/rfd.

well i created the new model folder and replaced the rfh&rfd with the origional files it still crashes at the same place that is on loadind screen just when i was about to start the first mission

Hm. OK. My advice is to do it one step at a time. So:

Begin by clearing the model folder, and having the game set up as normal.

Test to see if the game runs.

Copy the files in model0002 (which I believe you should have if your'e running emp with the latest patch) into the model folder.

Test to see if the game runs.

Make one or two minor alterations.

Test to see if the game runs (and doesn't crash when you build and use the units whose specs you've altered).

Save a backup of your edited files.

Make some more changes

Test to see if the game runs (and doesn't crash when you build and use the units whose specs you've altered).

Cycle through the last three stages until your ini editing is complete.
