This is a, I'll put it, a somewhat new phenomenon I have come across recently. Basically (as I understood it), this singularity will be a "point" or "age" in which humans stop being humans, and become something else - if you can see it that way.

Development and technology have both, until "recently", been developed in analog ways, by hand, by pen and paper. If you wanted to send something to someone, it could take weeks before the other one replied - not to mention all the possible faults and mismanagement that could happen during such a posting.

Nowadays, we have faster ways of communicating with each other, faster way of transporting information. The risks have also been reduced, since information are sent instantly, and not through a "human transport".

"Proponents" and theorists of this singularity believe (to some extent I too) that progress has become more common. Just look at how much new things we "invented" in just the last century - compared to the 1900 years before that, as an example.

This singularity will basically mean that progression will become so common that society will change much more rapidly than it has, and is now, done. Some say it will have to do with AI (artificial intelligence), others that the internet (and overall communications media) will change into "something else" - thus changing us with it.

Of course, with this also comes some questions, since many believe this singularity will happen "within a foreseeable future" - or around 2030. Will this singularity give humans a new way of living, or will it only bring new disasters and misery? Should we even strive for the singularity in the first place?
