Yeah I think It should also have been way bigger how ever I dont think that Frank Herbert's Dune is exactly a RPG it more a stealth FPS with a story element.

~Forgot to put that the game should be bigger in my email

"i htink you should be able to pick things up of dead soldiers"

I remember posting a similar thing on another thread but I don't remember wich one or if it still exists. Something like stealthily kill someone, hide his body, take his clothes to disguise yourself etc. Like in Hitman: Codename 47.

I dont think CRYO will get back to me.  >:( So I wanna try and get my ideas noticed by the MOD community. Where do you reckon a good place is to show my post.

Problem is I dont think there are two many people into the FHD game. Especially developers there two busy with other games like quake 3 ect.  :-/ where there are heaps of tools available. There are no tools what so ever for FHD.  >:(

If only we could tempt every dune fan in this entire forum to send cryo an email requesting a patch. Then im sure they would listen.

Im surprised that there arnt that many over people out there who would like to develop dune further???

Surley theres got to be someone outthere who's tried modifying the game.

I would like to see a "unplotted storyline". A way you get the mission assigment but don't have to follow the steps made for you. Choose your own way.

And ofcourse more controle over individual objects. ;)

Like the idea behind Hitman III or Republic the revolution. [ 2 is still verry much "work in progress". ]

Game should be more true to the book, The Imperial Sardukar should be insanly more powerful same with the freemen feydikin and the Atreides orthinopter. Also the game should be ( Gasp ) advertised for a chnage and WW should have some hope for it still because it has to be best RTS out so far. Until next post, Vilgent.

Frank Herberts Dune is an action/adventure game made by Cyro. You're thinking of westwoods E:BFD.

Cant find my email attachment must have vanished so here it is again in case any game programmers fancy having a go at making it right ;): Dam its long :O

Frank Herbert's Dune email:

To any one who is connected to the development of Frank Herbert's Dune, where do I start with this game it could have been one of the greatest games ever putting the dune universe where it should be in the games community.

The game could have been so much more but it's the little bugs in the game, which make it go wrong. If a little more thought had been put in this game would have been brilliant.

The way it looks is superb I gave you top marks for presentation and graphics. The way the characters look and are dressed is perfect. I like the kind of Manga touch you have given them it really suites the atmosphere.

But although the game looks perfect it has some minor problems, which prevent it from being the game it should have been. Maybe you could bring out a PATCH to fix the problems and make the fans of your work and Dune happy.

Some of the main problems:

When you only have your Knife and you are spotted it is almost impossible to kill any one as they keep shooting and moving backwards whilst you try and get close enough to use the knife however even if you do get close enough the knife doesn't do much. Games are supposed to be fun that means I should be able to kill him with the Knife even though ive been spotted with some kind of cool combo. It only annoys the player that you can't kill the bad guy.

There's some kind of problem with the camera sometimes if you load the game and use the mouse option for the camera it wont work

Making either impossible to play the game or forcing you to use the auto camera option which doesn't really work as you cant see what's going on around you.

The user cant skip the cut scenes which is annoying as hell, after watching them once some people don't want to watch them over and over again.

The pilots in the Harkonnen base can walk straight through you where as other characters don't.

Sometimes if you climb up onto an object you can get stuck with no way of getting down you are forced to start the level over from scratch which means you've got to load your save game again because there's no restart level option. On top of this you've got to watch the cut scenes again.

When using the gun it only shoots in certain directions due to the auto targeting system. This makes it hard to kill the people you want. And also awkward when sometimes you have to kill people quickly. Perhaps it would have been better if there wasn't an auto targeting system so you could just guide a crosshair to the target with the mouse and shoot or at least let the user decide if they want to use auto targeting or not. You could alternatively have a way of cycling through the different targets however I think the crosshair would be the best.

When hiding behind walls the bad guys spot you anyway which kind of takes away the point of trying to be stealthy. Hit man has good system for shooting and stealth the same method could have been used in dune (The way Paul hides behind the wall to stealth people sucks it just dosent work, Ever tried it in hitman Dam it so easy also adds to the fun.)

There are no quick save options meaning when you die you have to start all the way from the beginning again.

When you play through the game there is no way of going back to play previous missions except to play right through the game again.

Some of the animations in the game need touching up slightly.

Things you could have done to improve the game:

The Voice basically sucks in the game (A pink purple force field appears round him saving him from certain death.)

You could have done so much more with this if you had thought about it a bit more.

You could have used Paul's powers to more effect in the game by being more accurate to the film.

For instance the voice is supposed to allow Paul to command people into doing what he wants. You could have done this by some how targeting the bad guy (Similar to how the force powers work in Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight or its new sequel Jedi Knight 2 Outcast) Once the bad guy is targeted Paul could use the voice to summon him making the bad guy walk mindlessly towards him. Where finally Paul could finish him off using one of his stealth moves.

Using the same targeting system you could have targeted one bad guy, telling him with the voice to kill another target that you select.

The voice could have also been used to work more with the stealth system for instance you could have had a mission where Paul had to get inside

some guarded area with out been seen you could have used the targeting system to select the bad guy and then have Paul say something which puts the guard

into a trance where you then can simply walk past with out being seen or you could have the option to kill him.

In the new mini series Paul has the ability to move super fast the could have been another power he could have used. You could have used slow motion action like in Max Payne

to allow Paul to dodge bullets or other objects matrix style.

These are just a few examples of the powers, which could have been used in the game to help make it more fun and interesting many more powers could still be thought of.

Paul could have been made to perform more things like jump, sneak, crouch and crawl. I like the fact that in your game Paul is very agile kind of like a ninja he has the right body shape and everything this is good its how I imagine Paul would be in my imagination.

There could have been a bigger selection of weapons you could have even used the voice-activated guns that were seen in the original David Lynch movie where to activate the gun they have to shout. You could have used the mouse button to charge the power and distance of the shot. If the movie these guns are supposed to be extra ordinarily powerful with the ability to smash blocks of the hardest stone in to a million pieces.

The shield armour could have been used. Although it could not be used in the open deserts of Arrakis because it attracts worms there is no reasons why it could not be used inside of buildings and other structures on dune. The Atreidies palace itself was protected by a shield wall to protect it from storms from the desert. Some kind of special martial arts duel with these and the knives would be out of this world.

Some kind of duelling system would also be nice so if you were ever challenged by another who had knife you could have a good one on one.

Why not have some kind of futuristic sniper rifle.

The stealth attacks in the game are already really good but you could improve them even more by adding stealth attacks that change within the environment for example If say a smuggler was standing on guard near a cliff edge have Paul sneak up on him and push him off the edge. Small things like this can make the game all that more entertaining.

When Paul uses the Kryst Knife he only uses one or two moves why not make a whole range of moves to go with the knife. Such as multiple combo's using the wielding way you hear so much about in the books.

The reason the knife is the main weapon in the dune universe is due to the shield armour as only a slow moving object has the ability to enter the shield. Thus the knife became the most commonly used weapon to be carried alongside the shield armour in the dune universe. You could have used this somewhere in your game.

On the first level with the worm which looks spectacular ive got to say. You cant really tell where your going. It would have been better if you had looked away from the worm so you could see the sand colour you needed to run on and mixed

a few cut scenes with it at least you'd be able to tell where to go and if you wanted to you could simply turn around and look at the worm If you wanted.

In the game there is no multiplayer support, which would have been a great option to have. This would have made the game bigger and last longer. People also seem to love creating new Models, skins and maps, which would have kept interests the game for years as well as help expanding the universe. This also goes for creating single player levels as well.

Although the way the characters look in your game is great I do think Rabban looks a bit silly but never mind you made up for it with the rest of the characters who are almost perfect. Good Uniforms and everything.

You could have made the characters at least seem as though they have individual personalities. Everyone's so dull and straightforward in the movies and games which is not how I imagined them being from reading the books. I have to admit though Paul was just perfect good voice and everything.

It would have been good if you heard the guards have conversations among each other when they're on guard duty. When your sneaking up on them.

Another Idea which I have discussed with other people in the Dune2k.com forum is that when you kill people it would have been better if ammo could have been taken from them.

Dune is only developed slightly through the books they gave us the original concept, background and story. However not a lot is explained about other regions of the dune universe. About different aliens, robots and technology that are in the universe It would be good if the games started to expand the Dune universe as star wars has with its Dark forces and Jedi Knight series. How about making a Dune game set in the war against the thinking machines. How about creating a new dune character altogether and explaining his story in a game which is packed full of action and adventure im sure if you did this and made sure it was done right with no bugs this time it would bring about a new interest the Dune game world deserves

I have researched everything to the best of my abilities Ive checked forum's reviews taken everything into consideration. Everyone wants a new Dune First person dune game with graphics like the last one. All you need to do is check the forums for that answer. But we just want to see it done right. So I hope you take my suggestions into consideration. You've got enough info here to make the best dune game ever.

If you do make a sequel to Frank Herbert's Dune or a whole new Dune game, which I hope you, will please make it right and perfect.

WELL THATS ABOUT IT LOL, ANYONE ELSE GOT ANYTHING THEY WANT TO ADD, THEN THIS IS THE PLACE TO SAY IT;) KEEP IT REAL 8)

2 things should at least be improved.

1. the AI, sometimes it's just too stupid, increasing the AI(I can kill someone and if the other does see it, it just stands still) would make the game more difficult and if more like MGS, that would make the game more fun.

2. The fighting, the enemy are just frozen to the ground, you do not have to be trained or something, you just walk from left to right and shoot, you won't miss and that's no fun, also must the knife be improved, the killing of opponents who stand still is quite nice made, but you can't normally fight with it, the book says Paul was a great fighter with the knife, in the game..., well, let's not speak about that...

Exactly what I said in my email, its just stupid the little mistakes that have been made that spoil the game. If in the game Paul had been able to use his knife one on one when he was spotted, the game would have been inproved %100, they could have made the game so that he pulls off some cool combo or something when fighting but no........ Where left with:

Pauls been spotted he's got no ammo, better go kill the stupid Harkonen with the knife. Pauls approaches Troop and then waves his knife in the air as if trying to swat some fly's because he cant hit the Harkonen effectivly because of the way the games been programmed and gets blasted until he's nearly dead, then the crappy voice kicks in and stuns the Harkonen allowing you to finish him off with a stealth attack... but after all that you think well whats the point. :-

As I quoted in my email the voice could have been put to use in a much better way . What do you people think???

I agree, but it's the fighting(including the Voice) and AI that makes the problem, that's for sure, standing against walls and rolling past doors is nicely made, the graphics are pretty good too and the rest is quite nice except for the short story and the acting with NPC's...

and if they made the knife better, the game would be more arcade and much easier, if they want to improve the game, they can better make the game heavier too.

Ps. which movie do you mean? there are so many, so please give the year of making, I want to buy a DVD of Dune too, but I have no idea which one...(including the pic of the front will also be usefull)
