[hide] How about 51?

"One plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one plus one..." ;)[/hide]

[hide]"1 followed by an infinity of zeroes" - I just described an infinitely large integer number in 7 words. :) We know that we cannot compare infinite values. One infinity cannot be larger than another. Therefore you cannot have a number larger than the one I gave you.[/hide]

actually that seems right. now that you say it. b/c like i said there was obviously some kind of trick behind it. so then some thing like.

[hide]this is just for example, i'm not sure if it'd take 100 words to say.

14652345648946546543498453498198156349813654984635498

the answer would be, 'The number written above this message.'[/hide]

It would take 100 words to say anything that is composed of 100 numbers (not 0's though), like I said earlier - the easiest digit would be:

[hide]

1 - one hundred one's as in 1.111111...^10*100[/hide]

but i can say that in three words

[hide]one hundred ones[/hide]

There comes in the main question:

Your challenge:

Can you give a logical demonstration for the non-existence of this number?

[hide]

Anything can be expressed as less than a hundred words, except for irregular numbers - but we are only talking about whole numbers.

The only ones that I can think of that won't follow this are:

e^10*100

pi^10*100

But once again those are irregular and are not part of the problem.

The rest - ones that repeat can be said as follows:

*number of digits* *repetitive part*

But there once again comes the question, what if there are not repetitive parts like:

1264726178129547537453072543802754781235403754023750785236547235473503715423784502378542378145237453547802354732540723145238567845794569104560426591057840561037465910374690716590 or something like that.

There are infinitely many numbers like that, so finding one that is the lowest is practically impossible. And also - you can use words like eleven and twelve - which are 2 digits in 1 word.

the funny thing is that when you hear the answer you will be literally slamming your head into the desk.

well, ok maybe not that bad, but it would be really funny to see everyones face when they finally read the answer.

;D
