Yeah mercury is rarely used anymore because, upon handling, trace amounts are absorbed through your hands, and get into your bloodstream and eventually end up in your brains causing accumulative neural damage. But it's still really cool to see it in action. It keeps its lustre and conductivity but it's gooey and viscous. Make sure you take the appropreate safety precautions though.
