My method was to enstealth all thieves, and get anyone with decent missiles or spells to kill his mage friends, while your fighter(s) keep him at bay. You may want to boost as much as you can beforehand, as it is quite a tough fight (it was when I did it). If your characters can take the DMG, a fireball wouldn't go amiss, to disrupt the enemy's spells. It does require timing; make sure you focus everything (except the front line fighter or two) on one mage at a time, and then kill Ployer. You may need/want to leave the house (I'm not sure if it's easy or possible). I assume you have a magic license from the Cowlies...
