Nyerguds
The part where they're hidden from the threads list and forum search is what annoys me most. Locking old threads is one thing, but it's annoying to effectively lose the information in a search of the forum.
MrFlibble
I think Gobalopper mentioned that they were still included in search results. I haven't checked that myself though.
MrFlibble
Well, that certainly is not a good thing.
ant222
Well, that certainly is not a good thing.Yes, and that such importaint games as Dune II and Dune are tucked into the unpretentious sub-section of "Other Dune games".
MrFlibble
Yes, and that such importaint games as Dune II and Dune are tucked into the unpretentious sub-section of "Other Dune games".That is actually quite logical, because FED2k was initially a Dune 2000 themed website and forum (FED2k = "First Ever Dune 2k (website)"). And the admins seem very reluctant to change the sub-forum structure, so this is probably going to remain as it is.
drnovice
Welcome back ant222. :)Are there another ways to copy threads to save the informations that contain? Maybe "Up" the threads is a temporary solution...
Nyerguds
(FED2k = "First Ever Dune 2k (website)").Huh. And here I thought that referenced the Fedaykin :O

MrFlibble
Well there's a site history page where this is explained. I also did not know this for quite some time, and apparently back in the day other Dune-related wesbites and fora would even call FED2k "Fedaykin2k", much to the irritation of the old-timers here :D
Nyerguds
Well, actually spelling it out anywhere on the commonly viewed parts of the site generally helps :P
drnovice
Anyway, is there the possobility to unlock those topics?I thought that forum administrator could do anything... MrFlibble aren't you? :)
MrFlibble
drnovice, I'd love to help but I'm only a moderator. The forum engine does not allow me to do anything with archived topics. If you just compile a list of all the topics you want un-archived I'll forward it to Gobalopper so that he may process them at once.
drnovice
Ok! Gobalopper is the admin?

Nyerguds
On a note related to this... not sure if it's a new addition or not, but the full detailed search page now has an option to search in archives. Though it would be much better if that were a checkbox to include the archives in the search, rather than the current radio button switching between the active forum and the archive, because, really, when you're searching for something, how would you know if it's already archived or not? -_-
drnovice
Well, you can try first one, if no results, try the other one.
Nyerguds
I know that! It's still dumb though :P

On rare occasions one may desire to limit the search to recent postings, so it might be best to modify the radio button to Active threads and All threads, and to select the latter by default. Nyerguds
Actually, from what I've seen the archive functionality's whole point is reducing database query strain... hence why it works like it works. On this particular forum, though, I'm fairly sure the whole archive functionality is completely unnecessary.

Dante
Creating a new topic here seems somehow sacrilegious, like shouting in a silent hall. So forgive me for hijacking this space, since the stickied threads I might otherwise use have been archived. It'll be this venerable site's 20th birthday in three years, if I remember correctly. Think that's enough time to plan a celebration?
Nyerguds
It's ridiculous how sticky threads can be "archived" -_- but, yay, I guess?
D2k Sardaukar
Oh silent hills hall, shall do receive my humble yodelling attempts in honour? MrFlibble
I'm also unhappy with the topic archival function. I have brought this up in the mod/admin section today, but not idea whether the issue will be addressed. It seems that the administrators do not visit the board very frequently nowadays. Nuclear_harvester
in my opinion archived threads should be moved to archive category that evryoone could browse for stuff they look for. its pain toc reate thread that was done few years ago. hope this gonna be fixed in future.
