So, where else do you go on the internet these days?

I noticed a distinct lack of new threads in General recently, and I'm guessing that one big reason is because people don't know what to post about any more. Our interests have diverged over the years, to the point where we probably have less in common than when we first got here... but surely we must still have some interests in common, and the purpose of this thread is to find out what they are. So let this be a space for people to post about their online interests. As the title question asks, what do you do for fun on the internet these days?

For my part, first of all I spend a lot less time online than I used to (and I suspect that's probably true for most of us). The majority of that time is dedicated to reading the news from various parts of the world and then posting about it on Facebook and arguing politics there. So, I guess in a way I haven't really changed my primary online activity, I've just moved it elsewhere. :) I also browse DeviantArt quite a bit (I'm a huge fan of historical maps, as well as alternate-history ones), I sometimes search for music on YouTube (but rarely go there without a specific target in mind), and I read some webcomics (Order of the Stick and xkcd; I used to read Girl Genius as well, but the plot got far too convoluted for my tastes).

This has to be the most intelligent thread idea ever in history of (wo)mankind.

By the sound of it, could it be that you are in the politics Edric O?

Anyways, my list of doings on the internet:

- Board game forums.

- This forum.

- Manga.

- Youtube.

- Memecentre.

- Porn (why not? I live in a free country)

- Manga.

- My email.

- Naruto. (Finished other anime, which ones do you like AQIB?)

- And I finish it of with Manga.

There is a list of manga that I follow. But I return to that later. It's dinner time.

reddit to keep up to date on internet stuff.

watch tv/anime

GAMES! Since I bought an ok vid card, I can play games now. So since 11 months ago been buying a ton of games and playing them. Currently playing DOTA2 a lot. It's free and on steam. Hoard games at humblebundle sales.

Buy/research items online.

Not much different. Dune2k just not that active, so don't post much.

Basically the same (fellow redditor), lately I have been looking into modding halo again, but im not sure if I am ready to jump into scripting without a proper tool.

- Checking mail

- Checking weather

- Checking/reading news and opinion (mostly the Dutch source: de Volkskrant)

- Checking posts here, another old game (gta2) and chemistry forum

- Checking hack-a-day for some nerd stuff

- Read/look-at some articles on science and physics (like phys.org or askamathematician.com)

- Go on youtube for music, subscriptions or lessons on stuff like guitar playing (and sometimes get lost watching DBZ clips.)

- Check notcot.org (sort of art website) for some nice idea's/images. Explore from flickr is also very nice.

- Google stuff for study, programming, games, etc. I end up on wikipedia a lot.

- Playing games (mostly by using Steam). I stopped playing those addictive MMORPG's or shooters like Call of Duty. I prefer games that are finished after around 10-30 hours. More hours feel like a waste of my time. Indy games are therefore getting more interesting to me. Also because of the new mechanics, worlds, gameplay etc.

- Online research on products and purchase, like on amazon

I try to avoid stuff like 9gag (or reddit), once I start reading I can't stop for like an hour and it always feels like wasted time afterwards.

I read some webcomics (Order of the Stick and xkcd; I used to read Girl Genius as well, but the plot got far too convoluted for my tastes).

A few years ago I became quite a fan of the Order of the Stick. I remember you posting a link to the strip that references Dune, but actually I started reading OotS much later, once I got hooked on TVTropes. (To be more specific, this article made me go over to giantitp.com and start reading ^_^)

Other web comics I like are Kate Beaton's Hark, a vagrant, Irregular Webcomic!, Freefall, Darths & Droids and Supernormal Step. I tried reading a few others but I didn't quite like them.

I am quite interested in old games, so I frequently visit such forums as dosgames.com, RGB Classic Games and VOGONS. Sometimes I watch video reviews or playthroughs of various games such as this extensive (and fun!) playthrough/review of Rise of the Triad, Ancient DOS Games and occasionally some reviews by TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit.

I also quite enjoy this blog that publishes reviews of various (mostly old) games, which are fun to read.

About a year ago I joined MobyGames which to my mind is one of the most comprehensive video game databases in existence, and made some contributions (MG consists entirely of user content). However, after the recent redesign of the site that was imposed on the community without their consent by the new MobyGames owners, all activity has effectively stopped, and it's no longer possible to contribute anything.

My current manga list:

- Naruto (way better then the anime)

- Freezing

- Toriko

- Histories strongest disciple (started about only 30 chapters ago, the beginning is so boring)

- Fairy Tail

- Feng Sheng Ji (Color all the time, excellent art)

- Tower of God (Color all the time)

- After School Military Activity (limited colored)

Other manga are either to slow, or are completed. To be mentioned.

Games:

- Fun thing is, I started playing Unreal Tournament some days ago again. Some are still no lifers. But it is fun to do again.

They used to ban me for being to good. I do this online.

- Minecraft. 2 Dessert attempts again, both failed within an hour :D.

- Call of Duty Black Ops 2. Ghost is to heavy for my pc :(. I do this online.

- DTA

- C&C3

Video sites/cartoons:

- South Park

- Family Guy

Gonna check those comic websites MrFibble.

The biggest sandbox game ever.

Although, try to get your hands on the full version if you really want to try it out.

You,..... live. In a world. Then you build something while staying alive. Eventually you stop and take a look at what you have build. Sometimes it's very awesome.

I build small castle's. Until the dragon has been defeated. Then I start a new world.

Or I take a walk in the superflat Desert biome. Just walking and trying to upgrade myself to an "immortal". Trying to reach as far as possible. My record there is 120 km.

Want to crash my pc eventually :D

anyone knows any good game??

what is minecraft about anyways??

I downloaded pocket edition for android.. no idea what it is abt yet..

These questions would probably be more appropriate in the Gaming section of the forum, although note that "good game" is an extremely broad definition, and tastes differ.

This thread is actually a good starting point for new threads.

People post here what they like, someone responds with an answer. Then they start a new thread.

For example. AQIB wants to know from us what minecraft is all about.

Me as an minecraft addict would be explaining things to him directly in that new thread.

Same goes for a certain anime or manga.

Or those comics you have posted MrFibble (you should try mynarski forest, although, he quited making new).

That's why I found this thread brilliant.

Haha, it's rather nice, thanks for the suggestion! :)

I have nothing against digressions within this thread, especially taking its initial intent into account, it's just that asking for a good game is a very broad question. THE AQIB, if you still need suggestions on that then you could start by telling us what games you like because otherwise you'll get a bunch of individual opinions that may or may not coincide with your own personal preferences.

On the topic of webcomics, I almost forgot The Perry Bible Fellowship which I learned from one of Andrew's posts a long ago, and Alien Loves Predator. Also there's a nice Command & Conquer-themed strip but somehow I can't locate its current whereabouts.

I bought the PBF book when it first came out. Really sad that he stopped making new comics. But on the other hand maybe he stopped before it got bad (some people turn it into a business and churn out comics nonstop which might lose quality/freshness).

I'm going to create a thread in games section to talk about games.
