how to stop air drones

Building AirDrones yourself is indeed a good idea. And I would recommand that. Rocket Turrets are not so good, cause they work only in your base. Sardaukar Elite are too expensive, and too long build time for using them against AirDrones. And mongooses are also good. But the best to use it AirDrones

ok, if you see it from that side:

rocket turret (only in base)

mongoose (recommended)

airdrones

i would not use airdrones vs airdrones cus they'll both die, it wil cost you and your opponent an equal amount of loss.

1 airdrone can kill another airdrone in 1 shot, seeing that they also have the same range etc, its just suicide.

just an waste of money.

sardaukar elite r also good vs mino's, he can resist an 4 mino bullets (perhaps 5 ) and he also inflicts some nice damage.

that also go's for the mongoose.

Ken, if you do it good, you can save your airdrone and destroy the other one.

The defensive airdrone flies in circles. And you attack like this:

^

|

|

|-----   > AirDrone is flying

|

* AirDrone comes here in range, they fire both

|

|

The attacker can get away from the missile caused by his speed. But the defender stands still, and so it can be hit

i do enjoy a good airdrone dogfight. :)

u CAN control airdrones so that u kill the other and not get killed yourself. Timenn suggested one method.

Another method is to catch the enemy unnoticed. Order an airdrone to attack another... as it gets near, try to judge/predict the exact point when your airdrone will release its missile.... Order your airdrone to fly off the opposite direction about half a second b4 it releases its missile. If timed well, your airdrone will do a 180 degree turn whilst releasing a missile that will destroy the other airdrone who won't even fire in return as your airdrone did not enter its range of fire.

Very effective...... but difficult to explain...

Mongoose and sard elites are also good anti-airdrone units once u have established your ground defense and economy. Although during early game you wouldn't be able to train enough sard elites  for them to be useful.

The advantage of using these ground units is that u don't need to micromanage them constantly. (u need to keep watch on your airdrones constantly if playing atr vs atr).

Don't bother with rocket turrets in qm or short games with low cash. they require too much power to maintain.

The air drone used to be a truly awesome weapon, before WW castrated it by taking away BOTH its armor and its speed. It used to be a quick strike, precision instrument of death, and it could outrun missiles much easier. If you ever wonder why there aren't more Atreides in the QM top 20, blame WW for the air drone castration. WW upgraded the Hark Devastator, left Ordos as it was, and took the air drone's power away from Atreides. WW didn't even bother to make the new paper air drone cheaper. The ONLY quick-strike weapon Atreides had was the air drone. It could attack quickly and run away quickly. If you wanted to beat Atreides, you really had to respect the air drone. Now, it can't outrun missiles, and its armor is non-existent. It usually can't kill another air drone without getting killed. Is there any other unit in Emperor that can't kill an identical unit every time by striking first? If you have two Minos of equal veterancy, the first one to strike the other one will be the survivor. If you have two snipers on the sand, the first shot wins. But with the air drone, you can get that first shot off well before the enemy air drone, and you can start flying away, but if that enemy air drone gets that missile off, even at the last microsecond, the result is ALWAYS two dead air drones because the air drone can no longer outrun another air drone missile. Westwood caved in to all the Hark and Ordos whiners and upset the balance of the game, in my opinion. I've been mad about that since WW made that stupid move.

Agree Tawqa.

After so long time of development of WW they decided to put some speed and armor for the drone. But after it was released they just decided to reduce it. One conclussion can be taken :

1. WW development programs suxs, since they couldnt keep the original balance.

why would anyone ask how to stop air drones?

1: they cant do air to ground attacks

2: they are easy to destroy

3: if they are defended by a huge group of land based units somehow, dont attack from that direction or just use mixed sardaukar/fremen/Long Range units to lead away the group protecting them, then move in for the kill

Thats only your opinion. What do you mean by "used to"? In what version was that?

The Air-Drone could still escape enemy missile when at full speed, and thats ALL enemy missiles.

lol. They are a piece of piss, they're only there to fill up space! I've never had a single problem with them, they're useless.

And why give your enemy the chance to build air units at all? Unless your fighting one of the last 3 levels or a multiplayer level you can have your enemies destroyed by the time they build their outpost/factory. ::)
