test with nocd Patch of this site : same problem

test with same speed settings on both computer : same problem

when we play on solo mode (skirmish for exemple) the speed is ok.

arf... someone have an idea ?

It's ok on solo because then the game monitors the speed.  In online/network play, it just goes as fast as possible so your game speed settings are irrelevant.  Turn all the graphics settings up all the way on both computers if you haven't already.  You could play online even though both computers are in the same house, that might slow it down some.  Otherwise just get accustomed to the fast pace and build as many units as possible quickly to slow it down a bit.

Test to game on game speed 6 in single player to make sure you aren't just having that game speed in multiplayer.

Don't forget to have both games patched to the latest version.

While playing in LAN, disable the firewall to avoid sync issues.

What kind of LAME advice is that? Did you actually EVER played Emperor in multiplayer?!?

Like the guy above us said it defaults to the speed of the slowest computer wich is of course WAY to fast these days. So what the hell is your reply supposed to be? Some standard tech response?

I'd suggest trying a program that slows down your pc, like moslo or turbo. I'm gonna try it out now, will keep you posted (If I'm not banned by then  :D)

Well, yes he does play Multi-Player, as do most of the people that post here. There are some issues sometimes with Lan that don't show up in online play, or single play for that matter. There are issues with unpatched versions of the game as well, with regard to unit speeds.

I sometimes wonder what some people call "Too fast" Perhaps you should try online, and see how that works. Perhaps that may provide some help.

In any case, Onsympatico, Just take a deep breath and relax. If you actually have anything beneficial to add, please feel free to post it.

Oh, by the way, I'm moving this to Support.

Intresting, I tried LAN (at home) and LAN via hamachi AND tried numerous computers (laptops, desktops) all different configurations. Every game goes way to fast (like single player speed 8 ). And yes we tried setting it to 1, it makes no difference (we are all on 1.09). That leaves only one option, are you playing via xwis by any chance? And did you ever try a LAN game?

(His reply is still completely out of place, it has absolutely nothing to do with the issue, if he actually read the posts he would have known)

Yes we all play using XWIS although not on the Strike Team Servers, we use RA's server. (See sticky post in the Emperor Boards about how to get online.) Also most of the players here are at about the 'Puter specs he posted or above.

Note: if you are willing to dig in this support forum a little I seem to remember some posts about this issue, and I think they had a resolution. Hope that helps  ;)

And did you ever try a LAN game?

Yes Whistler and I played two Lan games last night, to get ready for the Tournament. No problems.

::) you crack me up.... well his heart was in the right place, at least he was trying.

Hmm, time to dig deep in this forum then and/or try out xwis and see if that solves the problem. However I'm kind of pessimistic about it because you said you tried LAN. Which probably means you like the way too fast setting. If you have the time, would you like to tell me which speed is set in your options? Because most people prefer speed 6 instead of 8.

And thank you for answering, your help is greatly appreciated. I really want to solve this, it's a very common problem and keeps people from playing this great game.

We play on 8 always. (I play Lan and single on 8 as well). This is due to the fact that online is always slower than Lan. Also, to get the least amount of lag online we always put all the graphics sliders to their lowest settings.

No problem. Just a thought, are you Maxing out your graphics settings, especially shadows? Emperor, even though it is an old game, still pushes the polygon count pretty hard. this may help slow it down for you . But I think the easiest option would just be to take advantage of RA's server and play online.

Sorry for replying, I will leave this topic to other people who you think might be more competent.

1- all settings are at the maximum quality (sounds graphic, etc...)

2- i don't want play online, just in lan game but not try this way

Like i say before, in multiplayer game, when i set the speed at 2 or 3 for exemple, the game speed is ok during 1sec then speed increase drastically like mentioned before.

a sync issue surely, but i don't find a settings into a cfg file ...

Without hamachi some people play this game in real LAN ?

Sorry for the late reply, but the conclusion is is that there is no solution. And yeah, all settings are on max, and yes I tried via hamachi, same problem. Westwood just didn't add adjustable speed, in  contrary to their other games. So it's always on 8.

Meester, cpugrab might work, I downloaded it from this forum on voodoo's request. Have not tested it though, but like you said it's not a likeable solution. Guess that solves the "why is emperor so unpopular?" question, doesn't it?

Ok, this post is ment for all players who think Emperor for dune runs to fast because I'm not happy with the advice I was given by the staff of this forum.

- The game is ALLWAYS on maximum speed in multiplayer, no matter HOW (xwis, LAN, hamachi)you try it. There is NO way too change that. I repeat NOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAY to change that in game (see below)

- There is NO multiplayer speed adjustment bar(you know who I'm talking too), there is only ONE in options->game and it does NOT work in multiplayer.

- This has NOTHING to do with patches, firewall settings or anything, it's a stupid decision on Westwood's part and after nine patches they still stuck by it (stupid fuckers).

- The advice on this forum to play online because it would decrease game speed is worthless, don't bother! More even lag is almost non existent and when it happens it doesn't slow down the game it LAGS, there IS a difference!

- The advice to set your graphics on max is worthless as well. This game is six years old and it's  VERY likely your PC is just perfectly capable to run in on max settings. And if it can't the result won't be a nice slowdown it would stutter, there IS a difference!

- If you are like the guys on this forum and like it way too fast, don't bother installing xwis, you didn't bought dune and I didn't and it's to crappy to buy + you do NOT need xwis AT ALL, use hamachi. You'll have no shit with serials (oh btw here is free login: hoerens pw: kak12345 for who wants to bother anyway) and it changes absolutely nothing.

- A game that fast takes away most strategy(and fun!), at least for me, if you want a slower speed try cpugrab (attached below). I didn't tested it and I won't because the results will probably suck and suck hard, let us know though.

Well I guess what it boils down to is either you like the game the way it is or you don't.

Or another way to look at it would be, either you can cut it and be competitive at speed 8 or you can't  ;)

In either case, I still think you need to take a deep breath and relax, it's just a game.

The game DOES run slower online. (try a 4 player with a map full of units)

We do not have to deal with serial issues, that's one of the good points about our server. We just use the XWIS tool as an easy way modify our hosts file to make connecting easy, (enter RA's server address, then 1 click, set it and forget it.)

Oh I like this game, it's the speed in mp I don't like. And it IS a matter of preference, I completely accept that. And your right I need to relax, but it irritates me beyond believe that after 7 years it is not common knowledge that you can't adjust the speed in multiplayer.

Just FYI the post above is not really directed at you. It's to make very clear what the problem is and what will not help to solve it. In our 2 player matches online we didn't have any slowdown what so ever, we had a few lag spikes though, but I don't call stuttering a slower gamespeed (which will probably also be the effect of cpugrab).

Oh and one more thing just occured to me. What is the point of Hamachi? If I understand it correctly it is a LAN over IP setup.

Now it is one thing if Hamachi has 50 people playing Emp at any time. But Emperor is a dead game. EA doesn't support it in any way. THIS is the only real community of people that still play it. So it seems to me that the only effect of Hamachi would be to fragment our community.

I sometimes think that people don't want to come online because they don't want to play against strangers, but you can set the game for just you and your friend and then lock it and no one else will join. But what is the point in playing only one person? Eventually one of you will get better than the other, and from that point it's just one person dying every game.

Just something to think about.

Look at your forum Voodoo. How many "bad password" threads have to pop up for you? Like answered there it's probably because you can only create six accounts per OFFICIAL serial (not a generated one!!! I tested that). And because people are not going to buy this game (if that's even still possible)your community misses out on a lot of people. LAN over Hamachi does not have that problem, you will still need unique serials but a keygen takes care of that and it's less complicated then xwis(which crashes after a game has been played).
