Maybe. I dunno.

My food nutrition roomates had no problem eating rice once a week.

And rice is included in Canadas food guide. It counts as a grain product

"Eat a variety of whole grains such as barley, brown rice, oats, quinoa and wild rice."

Adults are supposed to have a serving of 6-8 grain products per day.

Rice is an Asian staple. Lots of carbohydrates do make you fat (it's converted to fat to be stored in the body, apart from glycogen...), but I guess most Asian people just can't take that much rice. Most of the time, people get fat because of oily food, lots of sweet drinks, etc.

It also deals with the genes, since they affect metabolic rate.

My rice can be consumed with... many things. They could be fish (steam or fried), cabbage, "cai xin", meat, potatoes (usually in some stew form)... even tofu and steamed egg. There's quite a lot to mix and match around.

Usually it's like 2 meat dishes and 1 vegetable dish with the rice as a typical hawker take-away.
