gunner154
Now I shall ask then. I've been wanting to get down to playing good old Dune 2 with a better interface. This shall be my starting point!!
stefanhendriks
I hope you will like the game. Nostalgic it is, and i hope its fun as well.
Gilneas
Truly playable. meaning, it should have a menu, briefing, select scenario, play. Win/LOSE, etc. What about computer AI? will you work on that before releasing the first version?
stefanhendriks
Perhaps, i know i want it to be playable. So it should atleast have some basic AI that you can't overrun with 1 or 2 tanks ofcourse ;)
stefanhendriks
another screenshots; with the icons from Mr Flibble ;)[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
MrFlibble
You've made me happy! ;D And I'm very glad you've replicated the "clockwise" construction progress animation, like in C&C ;DAnd maybe you'll relocate the power and spice meters somewhere else? They just blend with the column and are a bit hard to detect, I think... They'd better look on, say, yellow background...BTW, what palette you're using? The original Dune2-or-alike (256 colors), or a 24-bit Windows? Cuz in 24-bit the icons look even better...
gunner154
Ah, now we're talking!
stefanhendriks
i use the dune2 palette. The power and spice bar are fine, there are no other suitable locations imo? Not on structures themselves anyway. The bars though should perhaps be a bit more easy to identify.the clock-wise building is not new btw, it was in D2TM Bene version afaik. stefanhendriks
Problem with the bars is that i cannot move them up now, there is no room :(
MrFlibble
Stefan, will you be using Mentat screens (for briefings, at least)? I'm currently truning an idea in mind on how to do them 640x480 (not 640x400) nicely... ::) I'll show you some results if you're interested. stefanhendriks
yes, i want briefings in , just like dune 2. I want it to be nostalgic in overall, so not only in gameplay, but in everything. If you can deliver gfx for that, keep it nostalgic, yet look good, i am always interested in ideas/sketches, etc. ;)
Trim
look better with same old style ;)
MrFlibble
Here's the result:There are four Mentats in the package, including the Bene Gesserit (or whoever she is), note, however, that the BG mentat uses not the ibm.pal but bene.pal palette. If you like them, I'll also create modified buttons and facial animations.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
nemafakei
It looks vertically stretched. Is there no way you could alter proportions by changing the background (and keeping the mentat's aspect ratio constant)?
stefanhendriks
i agree with nema here, it looks stretched. If you can 'fix' that, it would be superb, as the style is pretty nice!
gunner154
I thought he looks normal now, and compressed in the original version.
MrFlibble
Yeah, I intended it to look so, as this is the way everything looks like in the game (at least, in Windows). However, I can do it resized plus 80 vertical pixels background if you want to. Will be even simpler.
MrFlibble
Here you go. A new version that is not stretched. Honestly, I can't tell you which ones are better ???I resized the screen behind the mentats so that the extra 80 pixels are not so obvious...[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
Gilneas
I like the last one much better.
stefanhendriks
is there a possibility to keep the size of the screen intact? Since the pictures in them now have 'black bars' which look odd. :)I like this version better then the 1st one, so you're on the right track! :)
MrFlibble
I've fixed the screen size for the House mentats (not the Bene Gesserit yet). I'll start doing the facial animations soon.[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
stefanhendriks
superb!!! if all mentats look like that, it surely makes d2tm as a whole a lot better!! :Dthanks
MrFlibble
I'm glad you like it ;DHere's the new Bene Gesserit mentat, as well as the first facial animations, for Cyril. I didn't make his book yet though, but all eyes and mouth frames are here.Note: I used the darkgreen colour as the 'mask', since I like green and don't know what colour do you use. You can change it easily I think ;)P.S. Stefan, you probably also want to have the hi-quality pictures for the mentat screens, just like the ones I used for my wallpapers? I can create them for you if you like ;)[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
MrFlibble
Okay, here's the complete set of House Mentats' facial and other animations. BG's animations are to come soon ;)[attachment archived by Gobalopper]
