Dunenewt
I want to set up a website and forum for my Air Cadet squadron, but where would the best place to do this be? I don't want to pay for a domain, but if that's the only choice, I'll do that. Can Geocities support forums?
Timenn
The free package of geocities doesn't support a forum. I can tell you that. And if you want to pay for web hosting, you can better look around for more web hosting offers, before you pick one. What to look for:For the usual forums, web hosting must offer these things in their package:Enough webspace (10 MiB or more)At least 1 MySQL database. At least 10 MiB storage space for that databasePHP (usually version 4.0)The sizes all depend on how big the site and forum must be. Also, keep an eye on the data limit, forums drain much of that.It might be that I'm forgetting something.

ken124578
http://polarhome.com/Might be a bit difficult to set up but it offers everything you'd possibly need with a small website (decent amount of space/bandwidth, PHP support, MySQL and a lot more)
Ellinas
http://www.takeforum.com/I used this for a forum. You can make a forum free and easily.
