THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL.

PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD

FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE

BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME

WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.

New Orleans could be under 30 feet of water!

Tornado watches...

The eye is 33 miles wide.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 160 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

COASTAL STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 18 TO 22 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE

LEVELS...LOCALLY AS HIGH AS 28 FEET...

I just watched The Day After Tomorrow a week ago. Scary.

See the aerial video from helicopters over New Orleans? It is completely submerged.

A person on the phone on CNN said there were floating bodies...

Also that it is a fight for survival out there. (Of course they bring up the whole no air conditioning thing after that conversation wtf?? Do you need A/C to survive? No.)

An oil rig was pushed into a bridge.

Looters are everywhere.

Some interesting videos on right side.

Nice links.  Right after one passes through, the only thing that really matters is food, ice and water. Because there really is nothing else other than generators running a battery powered radio, and no damn electric for weeks.  And those looters are lucky that were in that Winn-Dixie store. When a redneck says, "We won't tolerate looting"..you can bet your ass it means, "you will be shot on site." Louisiana or Mississippi is the last place you would want to get caught looting in.  ;)

Watched a looter suspect I guess running from cops get popped with a shotgun with rubber bullets running though a yard during hurricane Charley, no hesitation at all for him. I don't even think they yelled stop, but thats the way it should be during times like that. I'm surprised they didn't just pop a cap in his ass.

Wiki as always has lots of info.

Looting is rampant in New Orleans. A police officer has been shot in the head by a looter and gun fire is reported throughout the city. :(

Food looting I could understand, the rest...shoot to kill.  Personally hoping a few friends down there are alright and made it out, or to the Superdome.  Hoping also the gunfire doesn't force out the Red Cross and FEMA.

Yea, they are going to utilize the Astrodome now also. One things for sure, next time a Hurricane is aproaching people will follow evacutation orders a little better, and faster. It amazes me how people think they can just sit tight and ride it out without much happening. I'm even guilty of that during Hurricane Charley.  Very simple now, if one is hitting in or near my area, get the f**k out...leave it all, and if destroyed call FEMA afterwards and hope they pay for most or all of your losses. I must say that they work very damn fast in helping. From the time I called them, was in thier system to the time they wire cash to my bank acct. was in hrs. and that was pretty much for a total loss.

New Orleans Mayor has just said there are hundreds of dead, but it may be thousands dead now...gas has hit $3.09 here for the cheapest unleaded.  The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is being tapped.  A health emergency has been declared for the entire Gulf Coast.  4 cities in Mississippi have been declared 'destroyed'.  The U.S. Navy is sending a task force to the Gulf of Mexico, including the hospital ship USNS Comfort.  Bush is set to speak at 5PM Eastern Standard Time, possibly to console the nation, possibly about the SPR, and possibly about sending the U.S. military to New Orleans.

The Red Cross has currently recieved $22 million in donations.  I know I don't often say this sort of thing, but, I'm certain any other donations would be welcome.  You can reach them at www.redcross.org or 1-(800) HELP NOW (435-7669).

(Paraphrasing events from CNN I'm listening to.)

Listening to: National Guard 8 - Louisiana Scanner.

From what I'm hearing (also from fark.com), there are/were (they are now out) fires at the superdome and people are shooting at the rescue helicopters, and they can not protect firefighters to put out the fires.

That place is ugly.

Now trying to let a guy to the superdome with portalets (portable bathrooms?) but the state police wont let him through, but they are going to try to let him through without protection.

The remnants of hurricane katrina are leaving my area now. Some wind and rain.

Security not good, going to try to get people to buses.

Blog of someone at the disaster area.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

NG compound is secure, not in danger, unsure of ability to get people to buses. Will continue to try, but NG is safe.

Wow, is right.

A woman is going into labour and they need medical supplies.

Also, there is anarchy there, and they'd like to send a convoy, but it would need an escort.

Good thing the national guard is in Iraq protecting americans.

EDIT - still no medic for the pregnant lady. :(

Uh, oh, panicking. need medivac at superdome immediatly. no danger there he said.

Guy saying no medivac available. :(

EDIT- The political people are doing damage control and doing talking all BS.

Secratary homeland security is giving BS speech now.

EDIT - Convention centre area is being pillaged!
