jordos
in ZangbandTK, when hallucinating, you can see enemies as 'The Mahdi', or 'Muad'dib' etc... Perhaps there even is one, since there are so many different monsters :) .Also, when you die I seem to remember seeing some Dune texts appear like 'I shall not fear'.http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=3624
Dante
Anyone think that Visas Marr and her "As my feet walk from the ashes of Katarr, I shall not fear. For in fear lies death, and..." is taking something from the Bene Gesserit? Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords.
gothakane
I've been following this thread for a while, and I just remembered...In the game "Lotus Esprit Turbo 3" on the Amiga, the jingle before the "Futuristic" track is a remix of the intro of Dune the game :D I picked up on this when I was 11 (Loved Dune since I was no age)Looks like the Amiga developers "Gremlin" and "Magnetic Fields" are closet Dune fans ;)Heres a link to the jingle : http://www.turrican.co.uk/forumStuff/Lotus3FutureDune.wavThe screen accompanying the jingle is attached, anyone remember that level? The turbo zones ruled, but it didn't have much to do with Dune at all :) Btw this thread rules!![attachment archived by Gobalopper]

TagDaze
This was a few months ago, so forgive me if it is not entirely accurate. In the Nickelodeon cartoon "Angry Beavers", one beaver says to another that they should go to work. The other replies that he is not in the mood. The first then says: "Mood is a thing for cattle and other things, come on."
Mahdi
Star Trek references could be posted ad nauseum but I recently heard one I never knew before. Now I can't verify this, but it has been said that the original Borg costumes in The NExt Generation are Fremen stillsuits. Aristeas
Its been awhile since I've seen Return of the Jedi but don't the Ewoks use Bi La Kaifa as a battle yell?
Tako
The design of the stillsuits was inspired by NASCAR cool suits, which pump chilled water through capillaries to keep its wearer from overheating (used also in Spawn (1997)).(as taken from imdb.com)it refers to the stillsuits from the miniseries

Dante
I did a search for this to see if there were any prior references to it, and was surprised to find that there weren't any. In the manga (or anime, if you prefer) Hellsing, the vampire Seras Victoria is given a large shell-firing weapon called the Harkonnen cannon. Or alternatively, Hellsing ARMS Anti-Midian Cannon 'Harkonnen.' Later, she is shown with a heavier version, 'Extra Long-Range Bombardment Firearm system for Localized defensive use "Harkonnen II."' Finally, the two can be used in conjunction as a grenade launcher of sorts, launching the two 'explosive incendiary grenade for wide-area field dominance "Vladimir." I can't find any pictures to verify this, but I believe that this last addition actually has 'Vladimir Harkonnen' written on the side.I like to think of this as a homage, rather than plagurism. The mentat matra from the movie would've suited better. "It's by the will alone I set my mind in motion"Used to mock coffee drinkers, they say. Dunenewt
In the song "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim, the phrase "If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm" alludes to the sandworms of Dune.
Vader
There is a band by the name of Shai' Hulud. And in an episode of the cartoon Billy & Mandy, Mandy enters a beauty pageant and they show her in all sorts of things, and one of the talents I think it is, it was Gom Jabbar. Although she really has her hand in that pain box without the gom jabbar at her neck. But a reference all the same.
Dante
Another gom jabbar reference. Heh heh. Someone got it confused with the box I think, but still good. Are you paying attention, Dragoon?
piterdevries
In the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, the episode is "Mandy the Merciless":On one boring summer day, Billy, Mandy, Grim and Irwin decide to look into the future for fun. In the future, Mandy rules the earth as an immortal half-breed half-worm demon half-human dictator. Grim is still her best friend/slave, and her idiotic Billy clones keep her company. Mandy's source of power is cinnamon, and she lies to Billy about cinnamon's only weakness. Grim leads Billy into the rebellion against Mandy, and Billy tells them the fake weakness, leading them out and getting arrested by Mandy. Who told her they were coming? Well, let's say she has her sources.-Mandy the Merciless is a parody of the popular novel, God Emperor of Dune in the Dune Chronicles. Mandy takes the place of the God Emperor Leto II, Billy takes the place of Duncan Idaho and Grim takes the place of Moneo, the God Emperor's advisor.-"Cinnamon mines" serve as a substitute for the spice melange, which smells and tastes like cinnamon, according to the novels.
