gryphon
is this the first browser besides IE that you have used ?
erjin999
I have been using firefox for about one and a half months now. Its brilliant, with just a very few things I would like to change. It doesnt do ftp, which was handy in IE for a quick upload to the website or something, but now I have a freeware ftp client.Overall, I am very well pleased with it. The tab browsing, the extensions...its all a nice improvement on IE.I have only used IE before firefox. I use XP Pro.
Cyborg
Well, Mozilla Firefox does support FTP, but just not uploading.Browsing and downloading works. Also, IE's ftp browser is not good. An FTP program is better.
erjin999
Yeah, I should have been more specific. :-The extensions are awsome :P Mouse gestures (came out first on the other browser, I know...Opera ?) are cool...
jeff2429
I also recently switch to firefox from IE. Though it might be a second faster I hardly notice. I just like it cause its more secure.
SpiceGuid
@allyes, this is my first brower besides IE.did not try anything before because too bloated.FireFox is light-weight.IE does ftp-upload, sometimes it works well but often i simply can't upload with IE.one thing that IE do and FireFox can not is acting as a windows-explorer.@jeff2459it is faster, or at least it looks faster on my 56K connection because it loads the whole text before any picture. jeff2429
I'm sure it is faster but for me not buy much. Course I never had any speed loading problems. I chose to switch to it cuase I read something about IE having some bugs or something which are making ur computer vulnerable and so my sister recommeded firefox to me. Ice_Cube
I have also made the switch to firefox about a month ago and havn't regretted it at all.I have always used proper FTP programs to develop websites, etc...One problem that could be apparent with all browsers apart from IE is that firefox has problems dealing with .NET applications, which can be a problem for some developers and businesses (in uing windows sharepoint for example). However, firefox should be most peoples browser of choice, especially with the growing problems of spyware. erjin999
Some sites only work well with IE for me. When I come across one, I just use the View in IE link within myFirefox, and view the page, then close IEÂ :PWhen I use other peoples comptuers I find myself annoyed at only being able to browse a few sites at once (otherwise I have loads of windows open), and switching between windows is a pain (especially with auto-hide taskbar). Ice_Cube
It is true that some websites wil not display properly, but this is only due to poor coding errors on the website designers part, especially with CSS.Leaving spaces between property values and the units for example, this will work for Internet Explorer but not for Mozzilla. This may be seen as a flaw of compatibility on mozilla's part, but following standard coding practice should not be a problem in this age of computing. erjin999
Unfortunately, if what you are saying is true, then the dominance of IE has meant that Website makers have been given the luxuary of being slack and have got away with it, with no reason to enforce any standards. Now until this all gets sorted out, I will have to run my preffered browser (FF) along with IE. :-
Andrew
Yah it is true, I had my CSS files made pretty crappy, but they worked fine in IE, but in mozilla, the page looked horrible until I updated my CSS files to conform with standards. Then it worked fine in both browsers.
rigel6669
However, firefox should be most peoples browser of choice, especially with the growing problems of spyware.I just installed it yesterday and i will try it out for at least 1 month
erjin999
Version 1 released now and I have installed over the old one. Some new bits and bobs there to play with. I dont like the fact that my extensions always need updating with new versions, but I do like the fact they auto update :D
Andrew
That launch was massive! The site was down/slow pretty badly too. They had more than 1 million downloads of it on the first day.http://www.spreadfirefox.com/
erjin999
I got it from mozilla.org. WAs fine for me, no major download problems. But I was one day late :(Still, got it now and its running fine. Still keeping IE as backup.I dont know if its just this computer or what, but firefox seems to timeout on sites a lot (ok, only some) the first time I try to connect to them while IE doesnt. Ice_Cube
Upgraded :)Great to see FireFox doing so well against such strong opposition..But yes, IE will always be needed...mainly due to browsing activeX websites that will not function with FireFox. This may seem a problem at first but very few sites actually NEED to use activeX, most of the time this is only used to install spyware/trojans on your PC.http://windowsupdate.windows.com for example will not work on firefox. But is it too much of a hassle to open a link in IE? Nope.
Andrew
Well isn't IE kinda required to run windows properly? (Or no one ever bothers to uninstall it from windows components.)Firefox is great, eventually I will probably use it full time. And Firefox/Mozilla has 8 percent of the market I think, and IE is losing ground to it. gryphon
Well isn't IE kinda required to run windows properly?well, not really IE. . although they use the same stuff. . call it IE or file explorer . . even desktop. . it's all basicaly the same thing... erjin999
But is it too much of a hassle to open a link in IE? Nope. There is an extension for us lazy types called..erm...IEView, which lets you open the current firefox page in IE, so I browse until I get stuck, then hit IEView, and do what I need to then carry on with Firefox. Andrew
Wow, now it is up to over 2 million since November 9th.Watch out Microsoft!Although frankly I think they should have waited and updated all the plugins first. Not that I use any plugins, but I hear that is the main problem people have with it.Anyone go to a Mozilla party? ::)
Andrew
I am going to try to make the switch now, but I can not get the internet buttons on my keyboard to work with Firefox. When I press it it opens up firefox, but doesn't go to the website, it just goes tohttp://redirect.paviliondownload.com/configPages/en/config1.htmAnd my buttons are set for the websites, and I pressed apply too. Can't find any solutions.Restarted computer didn't help.Ew because it is the default browser all the hmtl files changed icons. Oh well. Also it doesn't seem to be showing img alts ie:<img src="phone.jpg" alt="telephone">Or is that coding incorrect for some reason?
Gobalopper
The alt attribute is meant to be displayed when the image isn't found. You would want to go title="telephone" if you want a tooltip when hovering over an image.
Andrew
So alt is another cheap trick that IE uses so wbe programmers don't have to use a bunch of code. hehe.Title works, guess I should incorporate it into any websites I make. Silly IE making me make crappy websites.Ew, I hope there is an extension so that you can edit html files in notepad or another simple text editor while going into view source. Because that is how I edit my html mostly.Until I can find a way to get the internet buttons on my keyboard to work with firefox, there is no way I can (want to) make it my default browser.
