and no for the adress's its both auto  when your in the menu of the game and goto options and network.. both comps only have 1 ip and they r not the same.. unlike in C&C red alert u cannot choose the correct 1.

Red Allert uses IPX for the network games, not TCP/IP. . . If your PC's are directly connected and don't have a by you set IP it is bound to go wrong.

If you go to DOS start -> run -> type "cmd" enter  .. then at the DOS prompt type "ipconfig -all". . can you post what the result is on both computers ?

ok, those seem to be ok in regard to the IP settings. :)

is your Windows network working ok, in other words, you can share files between the 2 computers without problems ?

WindowsXP has service Pack 1 installed. . or 2 ?

Is the Windows firewall enabled by any change. . you never know. ;)

and last but more important. . what is the ethernet adapter on your first computer ?

The one identifeid as

Ethernet adapter Network Bridge (Network Bridge) 2:

in your post.

Is there another adapter in that computer, preferably one dedicated as local area network or something ?

In WinXP, to check the windows firewall, go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right click the network connection you would like to check, and select Properties. The very last tab, Advanced is for the firewall (and sharing, me thinks).

1  Control Panel

2  right click Network Connections

3  Properties

4  last tab, Advanced
