Infantry's role in Dune 2000

I rarely use infantry, they are weak, they dont have the destructive ability against vehicles like the troopers. They are only useful against other infantry and I would rather have a few seige tanks. I use infantry in two scenarios only:

1) Opponent(live or computer) uses fremen. Infantry, troopers, and engineers can see them in their stealth mode, but only the infantry are effective against them. More often now I mix a lot of troopers, with vehicles to guard entrances to my base, and run them over with tanks if they manage to sneak in and attack.

2) Opponent is using sabateur's, even though I am guarding entrance, I will leave squads of infantry in guard mode around key buildings and scattered in base. I had a hard lesson online where I lost my refineries and construction yard. Now I usually have at least two construction yards anyway for faster building but you get the idea.

If you have entrances to your base that are infantry only 3 or 4 seige tanks(mixed with troopers if you are dealing with fremen or sabateurs) will protect better than any infantry could. They will clear the attackers before they can get close.

The standard Infantry (light inf.) are indeed weak against most vehicles but I use them in numbers to bug the enemy's light vehicles. In later missions I usually build only troopers but also some light infantry to kill the enemy light infantry which are trying to kill the troopers because tanks will not automatically run them over unless you order them to do so and in a masive attack that will cost time and forces.

In missions (not online) I can understand your use of light infantry as, in small concentrated groups their fire power is quite good. However, in later missions as technology improves and you can build seige tanks the use of infantry is made void as ghost suggests.

When online the ability to build seige tanks is there straight away making the use of infantry usless. When using infantry in earlier missions remember the scatter key "x" as this will help to stop them from getting run over in mass.

When you are aloud to use engineers in the mission scenarios, I will usually escort the engineers with infantry to the enemy base, then scatter the infantry to draw fire away from the engineers insertion point.

Yeah, I tried it and it worked great with siege tanks! The only positive about the infantry (and I mean troopers) is the scatter option, because armoured units are so big, when in an enemy base. Siege tanks do have greater firepower and more stamina though, and, ofcourse, can't be run over by tracked vehicles.

i think infantry is good for scout (light infantry)

also for capture buldings is good use 30-40engineers, u get more chances to suvive even one or two, if is siege tank, hmmm. then you must scatter engineers, not keep in one group, engineers get less damages, and they capture whats blding, if they be near engineers
