Emperor Harkonnen
did the Guild ever find more planets after the year 10.000??
Inoculator9
I'm sure they did, but I don't think there were any specifics.
Emperor Harkonnen
so then the known universe is extended
Inoculator9
Yeah, I'd say so.
Muad dib
Does it ever say the "size" of the known universe?
Inoculator9
I seriously doubt you would go to the trouble of measuring it, unless the Guild did, since the knowledge would be otherwise useless. I'm sure there were estimates, but I doubt any dedicated efforts would have been made.
Muad dib
Ok, does it say how many planets that are known? ::)
Emperor Harkonnen
millions were known. at least habitable. my guess is that the known universe is only in the milk way galaxy.
Inoculator9
No, lol, that is not correct. Even a SciFi writer wouldn't go so far as to say our galaxy had millions of habitable worlds :P The Known Universe, is as it suggests, all of the universe that is known. The planets are strewn throught what is likely thousands of galaxies, considering there are billions of such galaxies and the Guild can travel instantaneously to all of them. Emperor Harkonnen
then they can travel several million lightyears :O
Inoculator9
They could travel as far as the want to :P
Muad dib
Then shouldnt the guild know all of the universe?
Inoculator9
Time constraints, and that whole infinity thing ;)
Emperor Harkonnen
no they do not know the whole universe. in House Corrino they go beyond the known universe by mistake.
lanceman
no they do not know the whole universe. in House Corrino they go beyond the known universe by mistake.Yes I remember that. I don't think though that the wayward heighliner was near any new planets, just lost in space.I remember that part of Shaddam IV's title was, "Emperor of a Million Worlds." So maybe that's all they had mapped out.LanceMan
Andrew
I think the title "Emperor of a Million Worlds." was more of just a title. (although it could have been easily possible if it included uninhabitable planets, although worlds refers to habitable places) ???
Caid Ivik
Well, I'm not sure if it was Guild, but people in times of Scattering had to know where they go...
Emperor Harkonnen
well I found out that the known universe is in more tahn one galaxy. read the first or second chapter in God Emperor to find out.
NHJ BV
I'm re-reading GeoD, and I think it has the most accurate description of the size of the known universe in the scene where there are 3 Fishspeakers of every planet in a 1100M2 room (IIRC). Procyon
No, lol, that is not correct. Even a SciFi writer wouldn't go so far as to say our galaxy had millions of habitable worlds :P You think that a writer wouldn`t go so far? Isaac Asimov, in Foundation, says at least 25 million of habitable planets only in the milky way.
