    Author's Comments: This is future of the worst possible happenings. After Y2K, a nuclear war, a global recession, and the succession of the "States Of Independent Renewal" only the power of the Iron Horse can reunite the USA. Can you fix this part of the United States?

  2. Goal: In 1851 wooden rails and mules made portage around Columbia River rapids. Now in 1862 you will bring locomotive power to the NorthWest, build and connect the shortlines into a profitable rail system.
    Author's Comments: For this map you are hired and can be fired by the Tycoons, who want you to build and run almost all of the first North West railroads from 1862 to 1895. This is a very busy and difficult map; but, It does have two levels of difficulty to choose from. It requires 90% single trackage, 1200 hauls to the Portland area and contracted yearly railroad hauls. It has both major and minor congestion areas to engineer. But the CBV and PNW goals are fairly simple if not too easy. And, If you don't like the pre planted yards with river culverts in Portland and Seattle, bulldozing is cheap and your bridge foreman can build bridges. The car weight charts may help you balance train weight for single track operations which is very important on this map to reach gold.

  3. Goal: When they said "Go west young man" this was the place where you were suppose to go. Build the transcontinental railroad and bind the west to the east.
    Author's Comments: In 1878 between the eastern most cities of United States and Canada and those of the Pacific Coast existed a vast undeveloped and untamed land. This was the place they meant when they said "Go west young man."
    Several railroads conquered this land, none was greater than the Great Northern.
    The Great Northern was founded by James Hill, known and remembered as "The Empire Builder."
    Throughout his years of creating, encouraging and directing, Mr. Hill's creed was development of the resources of the region the railway served.

    You must help the Republic of Cascadia build a future from the ruins of Oregon.
    Author's Comments: This scenario is an exercise in logistics. Plan ahead.
    It takes a few years to complete repairs and refill Lake Billy Chinook before Round Butte Dam begins generating electricity, so don't put this off until the last minute...
    Though this is a relatively large (400x400) map, it represents a geographical region about 125 miles square. Locomotive speeds are thus anomalously high, and fuel and track maintenance cost less than usual.
    The terrain is difficult but can be overcome without resorting to editing the map.
    The status reports for Gold are a little terse because of space limitations.
    Cascadia Power & Light has no function in the scenario from the player's perspective, but an AI company has to own the powerhouses/tire factories to keep them from disappearing during the course of a game.
    Similarly, the city of Grants Pass usually has two or three military depots because playtesting revealed that there is a possibility that the depot planted there will disappear in the course of a game if it is not served. I had assumed that military depots would be immune to this phenomenon, as they cannot be purchased like other industries, but this appears to be another one of the game's little quirks...

    Beware though there is an earthquake event that can take your trains right off the tracks.
    The actual ground scale is about 3 miles per cell. (not the 10 as in RRT2)
    To relate on a smaller scale things like track building, maintenance are decreased by 50%. (It may take some teaking to get all the scaling right so there could be more versions coming.)

    Author's Comments:
    The economy is lousy at the start. Just remember that it gets better and you have at least 30 years to get the job done.

    Other Features:
    Accurate port swaps, reliance on immigration to get passengers, trends and events for individual commodities, carefully managed economic state. Production rates are managed to fine tune economic growth. The briefing button provides progress reports for the numerous tasks. Hints for new Canada Bound players can be switched off. With luck, the locomotives UP 0-4-0 and A3 0-4-0 will return from cyber-purgatory.

  13. Goal: Christmas has come and gone with no sign of Santa Claus! Unfortunately, the reindeer are all sick, and Santa needs a quick transportation solution. Will the railway be the answer.
    Author's Comments: This is a Christmas map that I thought would be fun for the holidays. The map is based in Canada only, but where else would the North Pole be but in Canada? (Magnetic north pole anyway.) Besides, that's where I live and am familiar with.
    The map is based on the Canada map, map 6 in the original RRT2 campaign, with numerous changes to make it closer to the real city and territory locations. Also, three railways of Canada, CN, CP and BC Rail have been placed as close as possible to the actual locations as I could within the limits of scale.

  15. Goal: The Yosemite Valley was the most beautiful and remote area in California. Prior to 1900 the only way to see the valley was by stage coach. Now it is time for a railroad link with the valley, good luck.
    Author's Comments: Paul Bamberg modified the original map and added events while John Schwarz supplied some comments and some play testing, the scenery was created by Kevin Hodges. This map attempts to model the economics of the real Yosemite Valley Railroad.
    At one end of the map, in the San Joaquin Valley, are a complete set of agricultural resources that can be exploited to provide an economic base. At the other end is El Portal, on the border of Yosemite National Park. This city will never have any industry, but it demands passengers and and other things that people want.
    In between you will not find much except some logging camps in the mountains. The challenge is to deliver people, food, goods, and alcohol to El Portal and bring back lumber to Merced in the San Joaquin Valley.
    Breakdowns and crashes, though no more frequent than usual, are a real annoyance on this map. You can reduce them by connecting Merced to El Portal as early as possible.
    NOTE: There is a small problem with the medal events, this shouldn't affect gameplay.

    Goal: The mid-Atlantic coast starting in 1833. Can you find a path through the mountains and connect the eastern seaboard to the Midwest?
    Author's Comments: This map takes over where the first campaign game leaves off. You more or less have the choice of recreating the Pennsylvania or the Baltimore and Ohio. I've tried to make a slightly historical east coast scenario by forcing you to build east/west rather than north/south. There's big money to be made hauling products from the Midwest to the east coast.
    I've also tried to have a mix of terrain, although it matters much more if you chose a late start year and have a choice of locomotives. It's an easy map on which to win bronze but difficult to win gold, especially starting in 1833 as train speeds are so pathetic.
    This is really a single person game. I haven't tried to put in multiplayer victory conditions. The Civil War events aren't all I hoped for; maybe someday I'll get around to improving them.

    Author's Comments: This map of the southwestern US is just the result of one weekends work. It's not a full scenario, because there are no events and no goals to reach. I just thought, it should be interesting, to build up a railway system, beginning at the pacific coast and aiming to the Rockies. I'm sure, this map can be optimized, enhanced and made more realistic, especially concerning the economic settings. Maybe there's somebody out there, who would like to do that...

  21. Goal: In 1956 the Salzbergs purchased a section of the B&O. It became the Wellsville, Addison and Galeton. A short 24 years later, the line was abandon. Can you outlast the real WAG?
    Author's Comments: To get a medal on the WAG map requires financial frugality and abandonment of unprofitable sections of line. I only got the gold once with this method but it almost always gets a bronze or silver.

  22. Goal: In this scenario the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority gets a jump on history by getting established as a region wide transit system at the turn of the century. Can you manage it in Taxachussetts?
    Author's Comments: The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is a combined transit system of commuter and light rail with boats and buses. In this scenario (I hope to make a "2nd Century" upgrade in the future) the MBTA is formed initially as a regional transit system that includes all of eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Rhode Island instead of evolving from Boston's earlier Metropolitan Transit Authority. The first subway in the United States ran from Boylston St. to Park St. in Boston in 1898. While no subways are possible in this scenario, the player must build a working private commuter and local freight system that can survive the burdens placed upon it in liberal "Taxachussetts" in the late 20th century. You begin circa 1900 and get the first half of the century to pad your income for the bureaucratic assault.

  23. Goal: Advance mining technology has brought a new coal boom to the Susquehanna river region of Pennsylvania. Just as before, the railroads will play a key role in the mining industry.
    You are in control of the North Shore Railroad.
    BRONZE: Haul 200 loads of coal and have a Company Book Value of $30 Million in 45 years.
    SILVER: Haul 200 loads of coal, connect Kingston to Duncannon, and have a Company Book Value of $30 Million in 40 years.
    GOLD: Haul 200 loads of coal, connect Kingston, Duncannon and Lewistown, and have a Company Book Value of $30 Million in 35 years.
    If you seem to be running out of time, a connection to the coal fields on the western part of the map will give you 10 more years to complete the goals.
    Author's Comments: A new mining process has put Pennsylvania in the middle of another coal boom. Like before, railroads are in integral part of the industry.

    This is a map named Heartland and covers the U.S. Midwest from the Appalachian Mountains to the Eastern edge of the Plain States (East to West) and from Thunder Bay, Canada to the Tennessee Valley (North to South).
    This scenario spans the years 1935 to 1960, but can be configured for any date. The campaign can be played in single or multiplayer mode (up to 10 players). The single player goal is to achieve $80 million in company net worth in 25 years, and in multiplayer mode players try to achieve the highest company worth in 25 years.
