Yes, and that such importaint games as Dune II and Dune are tucked into the unpretentious sub-section of "Other Dune games".

That is actually quite logical, because FED2k was initially a Dune 2000 themed website and forum (FED2k = "First Ever Dune 2k (website)").

And the admins seem very reluctant to change the sub-forum structure, so this is probably going to remain as it is.

drnovice, I'd love to help but I'm only a moderator. The forum engine does not allow me to do anything with archived topics.

If you just compile a list of all the topics you want un-archived I'll forward it to Gobalopper so that he may process them at once.

On a note related to this... not sure if it's a new addition or not, but the full detailed search page now has an option to search in archives.

Though it would be much better if that were a checkbox to include the archives in the search, rather than the current radio button switching between the active forum and the archive, because, really, when you're searching for something, how would you know if it's already archived or not? -_-

Whenever one wishes to find some informtation, one does not usually care whether it is in the archived or active section of the forum. On rare occasions one may desire to limit the search to recent postings, so it might be best to modify the radio button to Active threads and All threads, and to select the latter by default.

Actually, from what I've seen the archive functionality's whole point is reducing database query strain... hence why it works like it works.

On this particular forum, though, I'm fairly sure the whole archive functionality is completely unnecessary.

Could be, but I'm not actually aware of how many people browse vs how many post.

Creating a new topic here seems somehow sacrilegious, like shouting in a silent hall. So forgive me for hijacking this space, since the stickied threads I might otherwise use have been archived.

It'll be this venerable site's 20th birthday in three years, if I remember correctly. Think that's enough time to plan a celebration?

I'm also unhappy with the topic archival function. I have brought this up in the mod/admin section today, but not idea whether the issue will be addressed. It seems that the administrators do not visit the board very frequently nowadays.
