Technical issue regarding lan gaming

Hello, i am a new member here. I read through all the posts that i needed to and found no answer to my problem. So i will ask here and hope that somebody here can relate and help seen as i am fresh out of ideas.

Basically, i have a disc image of dune 2000. I have installed the game from this image on two computers for the purpose of LAN gaming. Now both installations on the computers work fine. they have been updated to 1.06 and i have got the lan button to appear. I have managed to get past the problem of not seeing each other in the lobby too. However, the problem now is that the games lag very bad. Nothing i do seems to fix this either. i've tried playing about in dxdiag and still have had no joy. I've tried using tcp/udp instead of ipx. No joy. Regardless of the protocol used, it makes no difference. If one computer leaves the game though, then everything works fine. Both systems are running XP SP3.

Any help would be appreciated. Because the non-stop lag really makes it no fun and almost unplayable. Tiberian Sun (the game we normally try to play) does not like AMD dual cores it seems. (hence why i am trying to get dune 2000 to play) The other computer crashs the application every game without fail. (sooner or later) I thought dune 2000 would be less of a ball ache. However it is proving to be nothing but one.

One more thing. I noticed both the installations have crazy turbo cursors in game. I managed to fix it on the lappy. (i did this by re-enabling the directdraw and direct 3d. However i try on the dual core and it makes no difference to the in game cursor whatsoever. (of course though, this problem is nothing compared to the horrible lan lag)

You people may not have the answers. But i figure asking you guys is the only hope i have to finding a resolution.

Regards and thanks...

Out of curiosity, why not just play on a private game through CnCNet?

Are you playing in a virtual machine? Cause normally the cursor should not spin that fast :)

Why you dont use gruntlords updated game package? It comes with all the extra goodies the community made in the past, and yes it comes with online/lan support via cncnet out of the box :) Via the config tool you can change your rendering options if you have any lag in-game

oh btw, we also have an updated Tiberian Sun with online/lan support and other old games on http://www.cncnet.org
